Dibrugarh: A 26-year-old youth is feared to have drowned in the Brahmaputra River in the Maijan area of Dibrugarh on Friday evening, prompting a search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
The missing youth has been identified as Sonu Sah, 26. The SDRF began searching the river from Saturday morning, but he remained untraced at the time of filing this report.
According to Sonuโs family, he had gone to the riverbank on Friday evening with two friends. The family has alleged that his companions pushed him into the river, claiming that Sonu was afraid of entering the water and would not have gone into the river voluntarily.
The allegation has raised questions over the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. Police are investigating whether Sonu accidentally entered the river or was allegedly pushed into the water.
Authorities have begun questioning the people who were with him and gathering other information to establish what happened at the riverbank.
Meanwhile, the SDRF continued its search operation in the Brahmaputra on Saturday. Sonuโs family and local residents are awaiting further developments as rescue personnel search for the missing youth.
