Guwahati: Tension gripped No. 2 Nawaibil in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district after the body of a woman was recovered from the Doyang River, with locals alleging murder and demanding action against her husband and his family.

The deceased was identified as Mina Kumari Chauhan, who had reportedly been missing since Sunday. Her body was recovered from the Doyang River on Monday, sparking anger among residents and her family members.

Following the recovery, locals accused the woman’s husband and his family of being involved in her death and called for a thorough investigation. A crowd gathered in Nawaibil, demanding that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.

The situation reportedly became tense as the gathering grew increasingly agitated. Police personnel were deployed to prevent the protest from escalating and to maintain law and order.

As tensions mounted, police fired several rounds into the air to disperse the crowd and prevent any further escalation. The situation was subsequently brought under control.
