Imphal: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has accused the governments of Manipur and India of failing to take adequate action against alleged attacks on Naga civilians and has demanded immediate legal action against those responsible.

In a statement, the TNL alleged that Naga communities have faced a series of incidents, including abductions, ambushes, killings and arson between April and August 2026.

The committee alleged that several of the attacks were carried out by Kuki militants, including cadres operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement. It also blamed alleged illegal migrants for some incidents.

The TNL demanded strict action under the law against those responsible, along with rehabilitation and financial compensation for families affected by the violence.

It further called for cases involving attacks on Naga civilians to be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or investigated by a high-level central commission.

The committee criticised what it described as a “partisan” response from the authorities, alleging that cases involving Kuki victims are promptly transferred to the NIA while similar incidents involving Nagas are not given the same treatment.

According to the TNL, two Naga civilians were killed on April 18 when vehicles were allegedly ambushed on National Highway 202 near Litan police station in Ukhrul. Six days later, a Naga Village Guard was killed and four others were critically injured in an alleged attack near Sinakeithei village.

The committee also cited an April 28 ambush in the Ringui Horei hills, in which five Naga Village Guards were allegedly critically injured, and another firing incident on May 4 involving Naga guards.

The TNL further referred to the alleged May 7 attacks on villages in Kamjong district, where houses were reportedly destroyed and one person injured.

Another major incident cited by the committee occurred on May 13, when 18 Liangmai Naga civilians were allegedly abducted in Kangpokpi. The TNL claimed that six of them were subsequently killed, with their bodies recovered on June 10.

The committee also highlighted the alleged killing of Wilson Thanga in a Bolero attack near Joujangtek village on May 13, an ambush on youths repairing a water pipeline at Konsakhul on May 31, and the alleged abduction and killing of local authority member Chunjanlung Panmei in Noney district on June 8.

The TNL said around 20 houses were allegedly burned in Huimin Thana and Kherongram in Kamjong on July 1. It also cited the August 14 attack on Naga farmers in Langka, in which two people were killed and two others injured.

The latest incident mentioned by the committee was an August 27 ambush along the IT Road between Makui Asang and Thanamba, in which four villagers were killed. The TNL alleged the involvement of cadres of the Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P) and Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA).

The committee maintained that the repeated incidents warranted central intervention and accused the authorities of failing to refer the cases to the NIA.

The TNL called for accountability, justice for victims and their families, and a comprehensive investigation into all the incidents it cited.
