Guwahati: The World Bank has offered up to Nepalese Rs 25 billion in emergency financial assistance to Nepal following the devastating floods that have affected several parts of the country, the Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday.
The proposed assistance will support rescue, relief and reconstruction efforts in areas impacted by the floods.
World Bank Country Director for Nepal David Sislen informed Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle that up to Nepalese Rs 25 billion could be mobilised through various sources as emergency support after the scale of the disaster emerged.
The assistance is expected to strengthen the government’s ongoing response and support the restoration of infrastructure damaged by the floods.
India and China have also stepped up support for Nepal following the disaster.
India has provided immediate Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to the Nepal government to support relief and rescue operations in affected areas.
China has also pledged immediate financial assistance to Nepal as the country continues to respond to the flood emergency, according to Ministry of Finance sources.
