Guwahati: The Sivasagar district administration has completed around 85% of the Rapid Damage Assessment Survey launched after the floods that hit the district on July 19, 2026, identifying around 42,500 affected houses so far.
The assessment began on August 9, with 574 surveyors deployed to evaluate losses under the “severe damage” category. The survey has also covered damage to handlooms, livestock, goats, pigs and poultry.
The assessment will continue until August 30, and the district administration has asked affected families who may have been inadvertently missed to contact local survey teams, panchayat presidents or ward members immediately to ensure their details are recorded before the deadline.
Meanwhile, the distribution of the state government’s announced Rs 15,000 financial assistance is nearing completion. As of August 17, the assistance had been credited directly to the bank accounts of 58,795 beneficiaries.
Transactions for more than 7,500 other beneficiaries initially failed because of errors in bank account numbers, IFSC codes and other mismatched details.
The corrected data was resubmitted to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on August 19. The affected beneficiaries are expected to receive the assistance within the week.
A list of 6,000 flood-affected people who submitted applications directly at the District Commissioner’s office has also been forwarded to the ASDMA for approval.
The ASDMA, State Finance Department and Reserve Bank of India carry out multi-level verification of the data before funds are transferred, the district administration said.
Applications still pending at the Sivasagar DC office are being digitised and verified. Eligible applicants will subsequently be recommended to the state authority for final disbursement.
