Guwahati: WhatsApp is rolling out three security-focused features designed to give users greater control over account access and calls from unfamiliar numbers. The updates include a stronger two-step verification method, additional information about unknown callers, and support for multiple passkeys on the same account across Android and iOS.

WhatsApp is expanding its two-step verification system by replacing the traditional six-digit PIN with a password-based option.
The new password can include letters, numbers and special characters, providing users with a more flexible security credential. Two-step verification adds an extra layer of protection, particularly if someone gains access to a user’s one-time verification code.
WhatsApp is also providing users with additional details when they receive calls from numbers that are not saved in their contacts.
On Android, the information can indicate whether the caller’s number is registered in another country and whether the caller shares any WhatsApp groups with the recipient. The details are displayed before the call is answered, allowing users to assess an unfamiliar caller before deciding whether to pick up.
The messaging platform is also introducing support for multiple passkeys on a single WhatsApp account. The feature could be particularly useful for people who use more than one device, including devices running Android and iOS.
Users can manage their passkeys through Settings > Account > Passkeys within WhatsApp. This allows them to add and manage authentication credentials across their devices.
