Imphal: The Twilang (Twilang Lhang) Area Kuki Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Coordinating Media Cell has appealed to Naga civil society groups and communities residing along Manipur’s Imphal–Tamenglong Road (IT Road) to ensure safe and unhindered movement of civilians, emergency medical teams, ambulances and trucks carrying essential commodities.
The media cell convened an emergency session on August 22 and called for immediate measures to ensure the safe movement of essential services.
The statement expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in the region. The committee said civilian movement had been disrupted, access to basic rights affected and residents faced difficulties in reaching medical facilities.
The committee referred to the history of peaceful coexistence, social cooperation and relations between the Kuki and Naga communities. It said preserving these ties was important for addressing the current situation.
According to the committee, a lasting resolution can be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect and reconciliation rather than obstruction or hostility.
The CSOs called for safe passage for ambulances transporting critically ill patients and the free movement of healthcare professionals and medical service vehicles without administrative or physical interference.
They also sought passage for humanitarian convoys carrying food, fuel and other essential commodities to affected populations.
The organisations further called for active communication channels between Kuki stakeholders and local Naga CSOs to prevent misunderstandings.
The Kuki CSO representatives said civil society organisations have a responsibility to protect human dignity, safety and fundamental rights. They said this responsibility should remain above political alignments and ethnic divisions.
The committee called for collective responsibility, leadership and regional stability. It said the protection of civilian life, access to healthcare and the unhindered movement of humanitarian services should remain above differences.
The appeal concluded with a call for dialogue, humanity, peace and a return to normalcy in the Twilang area.
