Nagalandโ€™s Zunheboto landslide damages three houses, disrupts NH-702A traffic and prompts relief for affected families.

Dimapur: A major landslide struck National Highway 702A at New Colony in Zunheboto on Wednesday morning, disrupting traffic along the key highway stretch and raising safety concerns among local residents.

Three houses located near the landslide site had been evacuated as a precaution before the situation worsened. The houses were subsequently completely damaged by the landslide, but the timely evacuation helped avert any casualties.

A nearby building has also reportedly developed visible cracks following the incident, prompting concerns over the stability of other structures in the affected area.

A large volume of soil and debris spilled onto the highway, affecting vehicular movement along the NH-702A stretch. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and working to restore safe traffic movement.

The incident has heightened concerns among residents living close to the affected slope, particularly over the possibility of further soil movement. People in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious and stay alert for signs of additional ground movement or structural damage.

No deaths or injuries had been reported till the filing of this report.

Officials are expected to conduct a further assessment of the damage to residential structures, road infrastructure and the surrounding area as monitoring continues.

Meanwhile, Zunheboto Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj distributed relief packages from the Indian Red Cross Society to families affected by the landslide.

The relief assistance was provided as part of the immediate response to help affected households with essential supplies.

The Deputy Commissioner also met the affected families and assured them that the district administration would extend necessary assistance and support.
