Guwahati: ONGC Assam Asset Executive Director Uday Paswan has reaffirmed the oil major’s commitment to supporting Assam and its communities in the aftermath of the devastating floods that recently affected the state.
Speaking at the 80th Independence Day programme at the ONGC Assam Asset in Nazira on Saturday, Paswan said the company would continue to support relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts in the flood-affected areas.
“ONGC remains firmly committed to supporting Assam and its communities through recovery and rebuilding,” Paswan said.
He said ONGC, as a responsible corporate citizen, has committed Rs 25 crore towards supporting flood-affected people in Assam. Of this, Rs 5 crore will be contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while Rs 20 crore will be used to restore flood-damaged schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.
The Independence Day programme was held on a low-key note as the ONGC Assam Asset itself was severely affected by the recent floods.
Paswan hoisted the national flag before addressing ONGC officials, employees and members of employees’ associations who attended the programme. He began his address by reciting lines from the renowned Assamese poem Mor Desh by noted poet Hiren Bhattacharyya.
Recalling the flood situation of July 19, Paswan said the ONGC Assam Asset experienced flooding on an unprecedented scale, with several residential colonies submerged and water reaching neck-deep levels in some areas.
He said the floods also disrupted operations, affecting fields, rigs and other installations of the oil major.
Despite the extensive damage caused by the floods, Paswan reiterated ONGC’s commitment to standing with the people of Assam and supporting the state’s recovery efforts.
The event was attended by ONGC officials, employees and representatives of various employees’ associations.
