Assam new sub-districts
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announces eight new sub-districts to improve local administration and access to government services.

Guwahati: Eight new sub-districts will be created in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on August 15 as the state marked its 80th Independence Day.

The new administrative areas will be Kamalpur, Barhampur, Rangnadi, Chichibargaon, Chabua-Lahowal, Khumtai, Katigorah and Barkhola.

According to Sarma, the decision aims to improve administration at the local level and ensure that people can access government services more easily.

The new units are expected to bring public services closer to residents while allowing government schemes and programmes to be implemented more quickly.

The new sub-districts are part of the state government’s broader changes to its administrative setup across Assam.
