Tinsukia: Assam’s Tinsukia Police have been conducting anti-sabotage security checks at strategic and sensitive locations across the district as part of heightened security measures ahead of Independence Day.
Police personnel carried out checks at key installations and other vulnerable locations to detect and prevent possible security threats, with surveillance being stepped up in the run-up to August 15.
The anti-sabotage exercise forms part of the district police’s precautionary security arrangements for the national celebration.
Security personnel are also maintaining vigilance at important public places and other sensitive areas, while efforts are being made to ensure a secure environment for Independence Day programmes across the district.
The intensified security measures come amid heightened vigilance across the region, where security agencies continue to monitor the activities of insurgent groups and their suspected movements.
Meanwhile, a search operation was underway in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Friday after suspected ULFA-I and NSCN-K (Yung Aung) cadres opened fire on an Assam Rifles post at Longvi.
The attack took place around 3:15 am, following which Assam Rifles personnel retaliated. The attackers reportedly fled into the jungle, prompting a search operation.
No casualties have been reported so far, while security forces have intensified surveillance and area domination around the post and adjoining forested areas.
