Guwahati: The Assam Christian Forum has welcomed the decision of the Government of India to refer the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed examination.
In a statement, the Forum said the decision would allow wider consultation and discussion on the proposed legislation.
The Forum said the move reflected the governmentโs willingness to consider concerns raised by NGOs, minority communities and other civil society groups. It said it looked forward to engaging with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the JPC during the examination of the Bill.
The Forum said it is involved in education, healthcare, social development and charitable initiatives in Assam and remains committed to contributing to the countryโs development.
It also said it was ready to engage in dialogue and cooperation to help develop a legal framework that ensures natural justice while allowing genuine civil society organisations to continue their work.
The Assam Christian Forum reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and engagement with the government and other stakeholders.
The Forum also expressed hope that the JPCโs deliberations would be guided by fairness, wisdom and the common good.
