Guwahati: A Rs 2,100-crore allocation for the Aerotropolis Satellite City Project in Guwahati was among the key decisions taken by the Assam Cabinet on Tuesday. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also cleared measures covering welfare, employment, infrastructure and administration.
The Cabinet cleared Rs 450 crore for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) as the first instalment of its State-Owned Priority Development (SOPD-G) fund for 2026-27.
A provision of Rs 118.58 crore has been made for the Chief Minister’s Jibon Prerana scheme during the 2026-27 financial year.
Six communities that are part of Assam’s state OBC list but do not figure in the Central OBC list for Assam will be eligible for OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificates in the state-prescribed format.
The Cabinet also decided that people selected for government jobs must undergo police checks covering their character, antecedents, nationality and the genuineness of the documents they have submitted. The police will have up to six months to complete the process.
Candidates will still need to submit notarised affidavits, a requirement intended to prevent delays in their appointments.
Changes were also approved in the payment system for Foreign Language Training-cum-Implementation Partners (FLTIP) working under the CM-FLIGHT programme.
Under the new arrangement, Rs 30,000 will be paid after three months of training and another Rs 30,000 after six months. A further Rs 40,000 will be released once the candidate completes the training and submits a foreign language proficiency certificate. The package also includes Rs 50,000 in post-placement assistance.
A draft lease agreement between Assam Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (AIDC) and Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) also received Cabinet approval. The agreement relates to the proposed development of a Taj Gateway hotel at the former HPCL premises in Jagiroad.
The decision is intended to facilitate the hospitality project at the industrial site.
The Cabinet further approved a relaxation for the Moran and Matak communities from the restriction on new Aadhaar enrolment for people aged 18 years and above in Assam. The relaxation will apply until March 31, 2027.
For the Aerotropolis Satellite City Project, the Cabinet granted administrative approval for Rs 2,100 crore to be used for land acquisition and development.
The project is intended to support the expansion of urban infrastructure and planned growth in the Guwahati area.
Farmers earning up to Rs 10 lakh in net agricultural income will not have to pay agriculture tax under another Cabinet decision. Most small tea growers are likely to remain exempt from agricultural tax under the measure.
