Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced on Saturday in Kangpokpi that the Imphal–Guwahati bus service will resume shortly and national highways will reopen to all communities.
The decision followed talks with Kuki civil society organisations and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, alongside developmental initiatives including the foundation of an observation home.
The Imphal–Guwahati bus service, suspended since May 23, 2023, due to ethnic unrest, will resume shortly, while major national highways will be opened for unrestricted travel across all communities.
The Chief Minister made the announcement on Saturday after holding talks with Kuki civil society organisations (CSOs) and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen at the Kangpokpi district headquarters.
Sharing the update on his official social media page, the Chief Minister stated, “Today marks a significant step towards restoring normalcy in Manipur. In the presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen and Hon’ble NDA legislators, it was decided that the Imphal–Guwahati Bus Service will resume shortly and the National Highway will be open to all communities. These steps will strengthen connectivity, rebuild trust and deepen people-to-people bonds. Let us move forward together in peace, reconciliation and hope for a peaceful, united Manipur.”
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for an Observation Home under the Social Welfare Department at the Kangpokpi district headquarters, joined by Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, local MLAs and other dignitaries.
He also disbursed monthly financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per beneficiary under the Mission Vatsalya Scheme.
“These initiatives reaffirm our commitment to peace, compassion and stronger bonds within our communities, while ensuring every child receives care, protection, dignity and an opportunity to rebuild their future,” the Chief Minister added.
Officials said the upcoming Observation Home will provide a secure and supportive environment for the care, reform and rehabilitation of children in conflict with the law.
Through the Mission Vatsalya framework, the state administration aims to provide a safe environment for vulnerable children while fostering communal harmony across Manipur.
