Pasighat: Amid widespread flooding across Assam, personnel of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have organised a voluntary relief initiative to support families affected by the deluge.
Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Bajali are among the districts reporting significant flood impacts, with several villages inundated and damage reported to roads, embankments and agricultural land.
The Dikhow and Dhansiri (South) rivers have crossed their respective danger levels in several areas, prompting residents in vulnerable locations to move to safer places and relief camps.
Floodwaters have also disrupted essential services, including drinking water supply, electricity, healthcare and transportation. The inundation has affected agricultural land and crops, while livestock losses have added to the difficulties faced by rural communities.
Against this backdrop, the Headquarters Chief Engineer (Project) Brahmank of the BRO, under Chief Engineer Pankaj Goyal, organised the voluntary relief initiative for flood-affected people in Assam.
BRO officers, General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) personnel and their families contributed funds and essential items, including rice, food supplies, clothes, footwear, blankets and other daily-use materials.
The relief materials were collected and consolidated at HQ CE (P) Brahmank in Pasighat before being dispatched to Dibrugarh on August 4. The consignment was subsequently handed over to the Rotary Club of Dibrugarh for distribution among flood-affected families.
The BRO said the initiative reflects its commitment to “service beyond duty”, extending its role beyond the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and other infrastructure in difficult and remote terrains.
The voluntary contribution by Project Brahmank personnel and their families comes as Assam continues to grapple with the impact of the floods, with affected communities requiring relief and essential supplies.
