Aizwal: Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized 15 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at around Rs 45 crore from an ambulance in Mizoram’s Aizawl district, officials said on Friday.
The seizure was made on Thursday during a joint operation near Sakei Bangla Restaurant at Seling based on intelligence developed by the Assam Rifles and DRI, Aizawl.
Acting on the information, the joint team intercepted a Suzuki Eeco ambulance and recovered the consignment of methamphetamine tablets from the vehicle.
According to officials, the suspects allegedly attempted to conceal the drug shipment by portraying the journey as a medical emergency. A woman travelling in the ambulance was allegedly presented as a patient to avoid suspicion.
Three people were arrested in connection with the seizure, while the ambulance allegedly used to transport the narcotics was also taken into custody.
The seized methamphetamine, along with the three arrested persons, the vehicle and other recovered items, was handed over to the DRI for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Assam Rifles described the seizure as a significant narcotics recovery in Mizoram and said the operation underscored the continuing coordination between the force and the DRI to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating along the Northeast’s international borders.
