Guwahati: Assam’s flood-related death toll has increased to 97, although the overall flood situation has continued to improve gradually, according to the latest flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Thursday, August 6.
Despite receding floodwaters in several areas, 15 districts, 39 revenue circles and 481 villages remain affected. The Dhansiri (South) River at Numaligarh is still flowing above the danger level, while no river has crossed its highest flood level, the bulletin said.
The affected districts are Golaghat, Sivasagar, Udalguri, Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Nagaon, Darrang, Sonitpur, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Jorhat, Charaideo, Karbi Anglong and Dhemaji.
ASDMA said 1,68,701 people continue to face the impact of the floods, with 14,382.26 hectares of agricultural land still under water. Among the worst-hit districts, Golaghat has the highest number of affected residents at 54,085, followed by Sivasagar (49,515), Jorhat (27,842) and Charaideo (21,486).
To support those affected, the state government has set up 133 relief facilities, including 50 relief camps and 83 relief distribution centres. At present, 10,111 people are staying in relief camps, while another 35,596 people are receiving relief through distribution centres outside the camps.
Sivasagar has the largest number of relief camp inmates at 7,005, followed by Jorhat (1,270), Nagaon (1,016), Golaghat (589), and Darrang (231).
The bulletin also noted that flooding continues to affect agricultural land and public infrastructure in several districts. Multiple roads remain submerged or have been overtopped by floodwaters, while restoration work and relief operations are continuing across the affected areas. Authorities said river levels are being closely monitored as damage assessment and recovery efforts progress.
