Guwahati: Assam has secured the largest allocation under the Centre’s latest Jal Jeevan Mission(JJM) 2.0 fund release, receiving Rs 669.92 crore through the SNA SPARSH platform to strengthen rural drinking water infrastructure. Tripura also received Rs 5.98 crore under the latest disbursement aimed at supporting the implementation of rural water supply projects across states.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti announced on August 6 that it has reimbursed nearly Rs 5,300 crore to 10 states for rural water supply projects executed during the transition from JJM 1.0 to JJM 2.0. In addition, Rs 865.87 crore has been released to 13 states through the SNA SPARSH platform for ongoing schemes.
The ministry said several states continued work on approved rural drinking water projects using their own financial resources while awaiting the rollout of JJM 2.0. To ensure there was no interruption in implementation, the Centre reimbursed Rs 5,289.09 crore during the 2026-27 financial year.
Among the reimbursements, Uttar Pradesh received the highest amount at Rs 2,711.52 crore, followed by Karnataka (Rs 795.74 crore), Maharashtra (Rs 594.44 crore), Rajasthan (Rs 537.72 crore), Odisha (Rs 221.44 crore), Chhattisgarh (Rs 149.50 crore), Kerala (Rs 144.66 crore), Tamil Nadu (Rs 96.52 crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 23.25 crore) and Madhya Pradesh (Rs 14.10 crore).
In the latest disbursement through the SNA SPARSH platform, Assam emerged as the highest beneficiary with Rs 669.92 crore. Other allocations included Uttar Pradesh (Rs 90.98 crore), Karnataka (Rs 47.30 crore), West Bengal (Rs 30.45 crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 10.58 crore) and Tripura (Rs 5.98 crore). Additional funds were also released to Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved JJM 2.0 on March 10, extending the flagship rural drinking water programme until December 2028. The mission has a total financial outlay of Rs 8.69 lakh crore, including Rs 3.59 lakh crore in Central assistance, to help states and Union Territories ensure safe, adequate and reliable tap water supply to every rural household.
According to the ministry, the second phase of the mission prioritises long-term service delivery rather than infrastructure creation alone. Key areas of focus include gram panchayat-led operation and maintenance, source sustainability, water quality surveillance, community participation, and digital governance.
A major feature of JJM 2.0 is the implementation of the SNA SPARSH platform, which facilitates scheme-wise fund releases, real-time expenditure tracking and improved financial monitoring.
The ministry also said Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil has initiated consultations with Members of Parliament from various states to improve on-ground implementation and address constituency-specific challenges. Meetings have already been held with MPs from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal. In contrast, interactions with MPs from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are scheduled later this month.
