Guwahati: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has appointed Gen Z leader Kunki Chowdhury as its Central Joint Secretary and official spokesperson with immediate effect.
The appointment was announced through a notification issued by AJP General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan.
Chowdhury, 27, is an educationist and politician and was the youngest candidate to contest the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. She contested the Guwahati Central constituency on an AJP ticket with the backing of the opposition alliance.
An educationist by profession, Chowdhury holds a Master’s degree from University College London (UCL).
During the Assembly election campaign, she focused on civic issues affecting Guwahati, including chronic waterlogging, inadequate drainage, waste management, public health, women’s safety, and the development of public spaces and community libraries.
Her appointment comes as the regional party undertakes an organisational restructuring following the 2026 Assembly elections, with the leadership assigning her key responsibilities in both organisational affairs and public communication.
