Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday warned of strict action against people collecting flood relief donations on public roads without approval.
Sarma said roadside fundraising activities involving collection boxes or QR codes would not be permitted, and only authorised channels should be used for seeking flood relief donations.
He added that the Assam Police had been instructed to take immediate steps against people conducting such activities across the state.
The warning was issued after authorities received reports of unauthorised fundraising activities being carried out at public locations by people claiming to collect money for flood relief.
The government has urged citizens to donate through verified platforms so that assistance reaches those affected by the floods.
