Guwahati: Renowned Assamese actress Malaya Goswami has been chosen for the Bhaben Baruah Award 2026, honouring her lifelong contribution to Assamese cinema, theatre and the state’s cultural landscape.
The award, instituted by the Nalbari District Committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), commemorates the legacy of noted theatre personality Bhaben Baruah. Since its inception in 2009, the award has recognised individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the fields of art, literature and culture in Assam.
The Bhaben Baruah Award carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000, along with a citation, memento, xorai, gamosa and cheleng.
Malaya Goswami will be presented with the award on September 3 at the Nalbari Natya Mandir during the second day of the Bhaben Baruah All Assam Children’s Drama Competition, an annual event dedicated to nurturing young theatre talent and promoting Assam’s vibrant performing arts tradition.
The honour recognises Goswami’s remarkable contribution to Assamese cinema and theatre over several decades, as well as her lasting impact on the state’s cultural and artistic heritage.
