Guwahati: Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Wednesday assured Assam of full Central support for relief and rehabilitation in flood-hit areas, saying there would be “no shortage” of assistance for the state.
Nadda, accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, visited the flood-ravaged Bihubor and Nepali Khuti areas in Sivasagar district, interacted with affected families and reviewed the damage caused by the recent floods.
Speaking to residents, Nadda said the Centre was extending complete financial assistance to Assam and that Central teams were already assessing the extent of the damage.
“On behalf of the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I assure Himanta Biswa Sarma and all of you that there will be no shortage of relief assistance. Complete financial assistance is being extended to the state,” he said.
“Central teams are assessing the scale of damage here. We are fully engaged in rehabilitation efforts,” he added.
During the visit, Nadda met families affected by the floods and listened to their concerns over damage to homes, agricultural land, livestock and public infrastructure. He also reviewed the availability of relief materials and the rehabilitation measures being undertaken in the affected villages.
Bihubor and Nepali Khuti are among the worst-hit areas in Sivasagar district, where the recent floods caused extensive damage to homes, farmlands, livestock and infrastructure. Several families were displaced and forced to take shelter in relief camps or temporary shelters on higher ground.
Nadda’s visit comes as the Assam government continues relief distribution and damage assessment in Sivasagar and other flood-affected districts. The state government has also announced financial assistance for damaged houses, livestock losses, crop damage and livelihood restoration.
The visit forms part of the Centre’s ongoing review of the flood situation in Upper Assam, particularly in Sivasagar and neighbouring districts that were among the worst affected by the recent floods.
