The Opposition MLAs from Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) created ruckus on the first day of the autumn session of Assam’s legislative assembly on Monday over the issue of fuel price hike rise in prices of essential commodities.
Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami had to adjourn the house as the opposition obstructed functioning of the House.
The Opposition members went to the Well of the House, showed placards and shouted slogans against the BJP-ruled government and price rise after the Speaker Goswami reserved his ruling on the opposition demand for an adjournment motion for Tuesday.
The ruling BJP MLAs also went to the Well and shouted against the opposition members.
Goswami adjourned the House for about two minutes, but even after the House bell rang during reassembly, the Speaker entered after almost 15 minutes.
He then reiterated his statement that he will announce his decision on Adjournment Motion tomorrow and continued with the day’s business amidst a noisy scene.
The day’s entire proceedings were completed in a hurried manner with the concerned ministers only mentioning them without any discussion as the opposition continued to raise slogans against the government and Speaker in the Well of the House.
Earlier, the Opposition Congress and AIUDF brought two Adjournment Motion notices over rising prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and other essential commodities.
After hearing the arguments from Congress MLA Ajanta Neog and AIUDF MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed in favour of the motion and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary against it, Goswami reserved his ruling for tomorrow.
