Imphal: The Manipur Youth Assembly 2026 concluded on Sunday with the adoption of a seven-point resolution under the theme “Manipur First”, calling for regional political unity, transparent governance, employment generation and lasting peace in the state.
The event, organised by Manipur Miyamgi Eehou (MAMEE) under the guidance of its leader Khaidem Mani, was held at the Senate Hall of the Department of Earth Sciences, Manipur University, Canchipur. It brought together students, researchers, civil society members and other stakeholders to discuss the state’s ongoing political, social and economic challenges.
Addressing the gathering, MAMEE convenor Oinam Premdash urged the youth to move beyond political indifference and play a more active role in shaping Manipur’s future. He said the state’s multiple crises require a united regional approach rather than fragmented efforts.
As part of its resolutions, the assembly appealed to regional political parties, including the Manipur People’s Party (MPP), Naga People’s Front (NPF), Democratic People’s Front (DPF) and People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), to come together under a common regional platform. The proposed alliance, the assembly said, would provide a stronger regional alternative to national political parties in future elections.
The assembly also highlighted the state’s unemployment crisis, criticising delays and a lack of transparency in government recruitment. Delegates called for a more accountable and efficient recruitment process, along with greater efforts to create employment opportunities for young people.
Participants further urged the government to prepare and announce a clear rehabilitation plan for internally displaced persons (IDPs) before the next elections, stressing the need for timely resettlement and support for those affected by the ongoing conflict.
The delegates also expressed concern over repeated disruptions along Manipur’s national highways since May 3, 2023, and called on both the state and central governments to ensure safe and uninterrupted movement of civilians.
The assembly concluded by urging the government to take meaningful steps to promote reconciliation, address ethnic divisions and restore lasting peace and social harmony across Manipur.
