Guwahati: The number of people affected by floods in Assam fell to 1.92 lakh on July 31, although the death toll increased to 82 after two more fatalities were reported, according to the latest Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin.
The two deaths were recorded from separate locations, with one reported in the Nazira revenue circle of Sivasagar district and the other in Sonari of Charaideo district.
Officials said there were no reports of anyone remaining missing.
Flood conditions continued to prevail in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat and Nagaon districts, where 17 revenue circles and 379 villages were still affected.
Among the five districts, Charaideo recorded the highest number of affected people at 77,456. Sivasagar followed with 63,492 affected people, while Jorhat accounted for 34,067. Overall, 1,92,799 people continued to be affected by the floods.
The latest figures indicated an improvement from the previous day, when the flood situation had affected more than two lakh people across eight districts.
For those displaced by the floods, the administration was operating 54 relief camps accommodating 12,994 people. In addition, 26 relief distribution centres were supplying essential assistance to 5,384 beneficiaries.
Emergency response operations remained underway, with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies continuing their deployment in the affected areas.
Nearly 15,430 hectares of farmland remained underwater, according to the ASDMA. The bulletin also reported damage to houses, roads and other public infrastructure in the flood-affected districts.
