Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet on Friday cleared the Assam Compressed Biogas (CBG) Policy, 2026, to promote compressed biogas production and support the growth of the state’s clean energy sector.
Under the policy, the Commissioner of Industries and Commerce will function as the nodal agency for a single-window clearance system to facilitate the timely implementation of CBG projects.
Investors in the sector will also be eligible for support under a six-pillar incentive framework designed to encourage investment and expand clean energy infrastructure.
Apart from the CBG Policy, the Cabinet also approved the notification of two proposed reserve forests in Goalpara district. The Rakhyasini Proposed Reserve Forest and the Tharko Nalbari Proposed Reserve Forest will now be notified as reserve forests following the Cabinet’s approval. The move is intended to improve forest cover and safeguard ecologically significant areas.
Manufacturers of weighing and measuring instruments will be allowed to opt for self-certification, while third-party certification will also be permitted after the Cabinet approved amendments to the Assam Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2026.
The revised rules are intended to reduce compliance requirements and simplify the regulatory process.
Recruitment and service conditions for veterinary field assistants will also be governed under revised provisions after the approval of the Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Subordinate Service (Amendment) Rules, 2026.
The amendments are intended to ensure transparent, merit-based recruitment and bring greater uniformity to service conditions.
The state government said the approved measures would help expand the clean energy sector, protect forest resources, simplify regulatory processes and improve services related to animal husbandry and veterinary care.
