Imphal: An Assam man was arrested with 1.12 kg of suspected heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs 1.1 crore in the international market, during a vehicle check in Manipur’s Senapati district on Thursday.
The arrest was made by a joint team of the Special Operation Team (SOT) of Senapati Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Assam Rifles at the T-Khullen checkpoint on National Highway-2 near the Nagaland border.
The team intercepted a white Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number NL07CC-2510, fitted with a VIP flagpost, while it was travelling from Kangpokpi towards Senapati.
During a search of the vehicle, security personnel recovered two packets of suspected heroin weighing 1.12 kg, including the plastic covers, concealed in a compartment beneath the clutch.
The driver was identified as Alal Uddin (33), son of Imam Uddin, a resident of Kacharibori village in Assam’s Morigaon district.
Police also seized the Bolero, two mobile phones, a voter identity card and Rs 5,000 in cash.
The accused was arrested on the spot after completion of legal formalities.
A case has been registered at Senapati Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
