Agartala: National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar arrived in Tripura on Tuesday on a three-day visit during which she will attend awareness programmes, review meetings and inspect key institutions related to women’s welfare.
Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) Chairperson Jharna Debbarma told a press conference that Rahatkar will visit Udaipur on Wednesday to participate in the Gomati Zilla Parishad’s “She Serves” programme. She will also inspect the One Stop Centre and attend an awareness programme on child marriage and its social impact at Rajarshi Hall.
State Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy and MLA Abhishek Debroy are scheduled to attend the event.
Rahatkar will later hold a review meeting with district administration and police officials to assess issues related to women’s safety and welfare, Debbarma said.
On July 30, the NCW chairperson will visit Agartala Central Jail and hold a meeting with the state’s acting Director General of Police and senior police officers.
She will also attend an awareness programme on prevention of stalking at a private hotel, inaugurate the website of the Tripura Women’s Commission and participate in a workshop on prevention of sexual harassment at workplaces at Sukanta Academy before concluding her visit, Debbarma said.
Vice-Chairperson of TCW Madhumita Chowdhury, Member Secretary Pallabi Roy and other members were also present at the press conference.
