Police said the arrested cadres were allegedly involved in extortion activities across the valley districts

Imphal: Central security forces and the Manipur Police busted a temporary insurgent camp in Imphal East district after arresting four cadres of different underground groups during coordinated operations over the past 36 hours, police said on Wednesday.

Acting on disclosures made by the arrested cadres, security forces intensified operations in the foothills of Seijang Cheirao Ching in Imphal East district and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and communication equipment from the hideout.

The recovered items included one .303 rifle with a magazine, three 12-bore single-barrel guns, one .22 rifle, one anti-riot gun, three mortar shells, two No. 36 hand grenades, 43 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres, three tear smoke grenades, five wireless sets and one AK rifle magazine.

In separate operations, police arrested two alleged cadres of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) from Nungoo Lamkhai under Sugnu Police Station in Kakching district. They were identified as Marcus Thiyam alias Tompok (22) and Heikrujam William Meitei (22), both residents of Khongyam Makha Leikai in Kakching district.

Police also arrested an alleged cadre of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political wing of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA), identified as Yendrembam Athouba Meitei alias Atomba alias Takhelngamba (21) of Moreh Premnagar Ward No. 4 in Tengnoupal district. He was apprehended from an abandoned house at New Lambulane under Porompat Police Station.

In another operation, police arrested an alleged extortionist and cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Partyโ€“Meeyamgi Feengang Lanmi (KCP-MFL), identified as Yensenbam Chandrasen Meitei alias Pase (52), from Langdum Lamkhai under Irilbung Police Station.

Police said the arrested cadres were allegedly involved in extortion activities across the valley districts. Investigations are underway.
