Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet on Saturday cleared reforms to the state’s registration framework, making several additional property-related documents mandatory for registration.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the updated framework will introduce virtual and faceless registration facilities, revise the classification of documents and expand the scope of mandatory registration.
The new rules will require registration of documents including agreements for sale, development agreements, property-related powers of attorney, short-term leases, equitable mortgages, sale certificates, bank guarantees, property transfers linked to mergers or demergers and partnership agreements involving immovable property.
The government said the changes will make property transactions more transparent, help curb fraudulent transfers and offer better legal protection to buyers, financial institutions and other stakeholders.
The Cabinet also gave its approval to the Assam Ayurvedic Health Service Rules, 2026, which provide a recruitment and service framework for Ayurvedic Medical Officers.
The Cabinet also named the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) as the agency responsible for procuring masur dal and sugar for distribution under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The move is expected to improve procurement efficiency and help maintain a steady supply of essential commodities.
