Agartala: Three members of a family were found dead inside their house in Tripura’s South district on Friday, prompting police to launch a detailed investigation into the incident, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Shankar Chakraborty, his wife Chhabi Chakraborty and their younger son Krishna Chakraborty.
The incident took place at West Muhuripur under the Santirbazar subdivision of South Tripura district.
According to police, local residents alerted authorities after finding the house locked and receiving no response from the family members.
A police team rushed to the spot, broke open the door and recovered the bodies from inside the house.
Officials said the bodies of Shankar Chakraborty and his wife were found lying in separate rooms, while the body of their younger son was found hanging.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths have raised suspicion, and police are probing all possible angles, including murder, suicide or any other form of unnatural death.
Senior police officers, along with forensic experts, visited the spot and conducted a preliminary examination. Evidence was collected from the house, and the area was cordoned off to facilitate a scientific investigation, officials said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, which police said would help determine the exact cause and time of death. Officials said no conclusion would be drawn until the post-mortem and forensic reports are received.
Police have also begun questioning neighbours and relatives to gather information about the family’s recent activities, personal circumstances and any disputes or other issues that could assist the investigation.
They are also examining materials recovered from the house and other evidence to establish the sequence of events leading to the deaths.
The incident triggered concern in the locality, with a large number of villagers gathering outside the house after news of the deaths spread. Additional police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order as investigators carried out their work.
Officials said no suicide note had been recovered from the spot during the initial search. However, they declined to speculate on the cause of the deaths, saying all possibilities remain open at this stage.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far.
The investigation is underway.
