Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh district administration has stepped up relief efforts for flood-hit districts in Upper Assam by dispatching large quantities of essential supplies, including drinking water, food items and milk, to the worst-affected areas.
As part of the ongoing operation, the administration has sent 1 lakh bottles of drinking water and 50,000 packets of biscuits to Sivasagar district. Another consignment comprising 1 lakh bottles of drinking water and 90,000 packets of biscuits is currently being loaded and is expected to reach the district within the next four to five hours.
To address the nutritional needs of affected families, particularly children, 10,000 packets of 200 ml milk have also been dispatched to Sivasagar. Additionally, around 80 quintals of pumpkins have been sent to Charaideo district for distribution among flood-affected residents.
Officials said preparations are underway to send another batch of relief materials to Sivasagar, with the quantity of the next consignment expected to be finalised later tonight.
To facilitate the smooth transportation and distribution of relief supplies, the Dibrugarh District Administration, in coordination with the District Transport Office (DTO), has deployed 54 light goods vehicles to support relief operations in Charaideo and Sivasagar districts.
The District Transport Office has also arranged nine Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) to transport drinking water, biscuits and other essential commodities to flood-hit areas in Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and parts of Dibrugarh district.
Apart from supplying relief materials, the administration has deputed officers, vehicles and other resources to the affected districts to strengthen rescue, relief and coordination efforts.
The Dibrugarh District Administration said it remains committed to providing all necessary logistical support and humanitarian assistance to flood-affected districts, while ensuring timely delivery of relief and effective coordination until the situation improves.
