Guwahati: A rare Himalayan Mole (Euroscaptor micrurus), an endemic species of the Himalayan region, was rescued by the Assam Forest Department after it was swept away by the strong currents of the Manas River. The animal was later safely released into its natural habitat in Manas National Park.

Sharing the update on X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of the forest departmentโ€™s frontline staff for their timely action in rescuing the mammal and ensuring its safe return to the wild.

The Chief Minister said the rescue underscores Assamโ€™s continued commitment to wildlife conservation and its efforts to protect every species found within the stateโ€™s forests.

The Himalayan Mole is a rare mammal found in the Himalayan region, and its successful rehabilitation highlights the significance of sustained conservation initiatives in Assamโ€™s protected areas.
