Guwahati: A 22-year-old woman was found hanging inside her rented accommodation in Guwahati’s Shilpukhuri area on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Neha Saikia, a resident of 2 No. Saikia Chuburi under Orang in Assam’s Udalguri district. She was employed at a Tanishq showroom in Guwahati.
According to preliminary information, the landlord found Saikia hanging in her rented accommodation on Tuesday morning and immediately informed Chandmari Police.
A police team reached the spot and launched an investigation. The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, and police said they are awaiting further evidence.
Sources said a party had reportedly continued at the rented accommodation until late Monday night. Police are examining all possible angles to establish the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.
The body was shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
