Dibrugarh: Panic gripped the Naharani area under Khowang in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Saturday after a wild buffalo entered the locality and attacked two residents, leaving them seriously injured.
The injured have been identified as Bharat Saikia (46), a resident of Naharani, and Sarat Saikia (51), a resident of the nearby Nagaon village.
According to local sources, the buffalo suddenly turned aggressive and charged at the two men, causing severe injuries.
Following the incident, local residents rushed the injured to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The attack triggered panic among villagers, with many staying indoors as the animal continued to roam the area.
Upon receiving information, officials from the Forest Department, assisted by the police, launched an operation to trace and contain the wild buffalo to prevent any further attacks.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing into areas where the animal has been sighted until the situation is brought under control.
