Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places across Assam until June 13 due to the prevailing monsoon conditions.
According to the forecast, most parts of the state are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, while isolated places in the western and southern districts may experience heavy rainfall of 7โ11 cm per day and very heavy rainfall of 12โ20 cm per day over the next two to three days.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said the weather conditions could lead to waterlogging, flooding, flash floods, slow vehicular movement and an increased risk of landslides in vulnerable areas.
ASDMA said district administrations are monitoring the situation and emergency response systems have been kept on alert.
The authority has advised residents of Guwahati to remain cautious and take necessary precautions. Daily commuters and long-distance travellers have been asked to plan their travel accordingly and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of heavy rainfall.
People living in low-lying and hillside areas have also been advised to remain alert for signs of flooding and landslides.
ASDMA said it will continue to provide weather updates and advisories through its official website and social media platforms and urged the public to follow official weather bulletins and instructions issued by local authorities.
