Gauhati University Guest House
The university said the existing dining hall has become insufficient due to the increase in academic and administrative activities.

Guwahati: Gauhati University has clarified that the construction project at its Guest House is intended to expand common facilities for visitors associated with the university.

According to the university, the Guest House is used by members of selection committees, external examiners, visiting faculty, resource persons, alumni, parents, students, delegates and guests attending academic, administrative and cultural programmes.

The university said the existing dining hall has become insufficient due to the increase in academic and administrative activities. It also stated that the Guest House kitchen, store and staff accommodation require renovation.

The University Construction Committee has approved the construction of a new dining hall, along with a new kitchen, store and staff accommodation at the Guest House.

The university said the term “VIP Dining Hall” was inadvertently used in one of the tender documents during its preparation.

According to the clarification, the term was an internal reference historically used for visiting professors, experts and other guests staying at the Guest House and did not reflect the purpose of the project.

The university said the error was corrected in the Letter of Intent issued on June 24, 2026, where the project was described as the construction of a dining hall at the Gauhati University Guest House.

It also said an explanation has been sought from the Superintending Engineer (in-charge) of the Engineering Department regarding the use of the incorrect terminology in the initial tender document.

According to the university, the project is aimed at improving Guest House facilities to meet the growing requirements of visitors associated with its academic activities.
