Joint security forces arrested two KCP and KYKL cadres in Manipur, seizing a pistol, grenades and ammunition.

Imphal: Joint security forces arrested two active cadres of proscribed insurgent groups in separate operations across Manipur‘s valley districts on Thursday, recovering a 9 mm pistol, live ammunition and hand grenades.

According to Manipur Police, the arrested militants were allegedly involved in extortion, illegal arms supply and the planting of hand grenades in different parts of the valley.

In the first operation, security personnel apprehended an active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG), identified as Angom Chingkheinganba Meitei (27), a resident of Umathel Makha Leikai in Kakching district. He was arrested near Aihang Village Gate under Waikhong Police Station.

In a separate operation, the forces arrested an active cadre of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), identified as Takhellambam Gremichand alias Inaocha Singh (52), a resident of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai in Imphal West district. He was intercepted in the Kalika Bamon Kampu area under Irilbung Police Station.

During the operation, security personnel recovered a 9 mm pistol, two magazines, 70 rounds of live ammunition and hand grenades from his possession.

Police said all the arrested cadres, along with the seized arms, ammunition and explosives, have been handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal action.

Authorities said efforts are continuing to dismantle insurgent networks and curb extortion and illegal arms activities in the state.
