Imphal: The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Indian Army and Manipur Police, carried out a series of intelligence-led operations across Manipur over the past week, recovering a significant cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, officials said on Wednesday.
The recovered items included one M16 assault rifle, one Type-81 assault rifle, four pistols, four Pompi (improvised mortars), five Pompi mortar bombs, four hand grenades, 22 single-bore rifles, three shotguns, eight communication sets, eight magazines, 73 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, 36 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and seven 12-bore cartridges. Bulletproof gear, communication equipment, and other war-like stores were also seized.
The operations also led to the apprehension of three active insurgent cadres belonging to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) and the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political wing of the armed People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
All recovered arms and the apprehended individuals were handed over to the respective police authorities for further legal action.
According to officials, the intelligence-driven operations reaffirm the Assam Rifles’ commitment to dismantling insurgent networks and ensuring lasting peace, security, and stability across the Northeast.
