Dimapur: An endangered Slow Loris was rescued by a resident of Sukhalu village in Zunheboto district on Saturday.
The rescuer, Nihoto K. Yepthomi, handed the animal over to the Zunheboto District Tourism Association for appropriate care.
Following consultation with the authorities, the association released the rescued Slow Loris into its natural habitat at the Sukhai biodiversity conservation area, ensuring the animal’s welfare while contributing to ongoing wildlife conservation efforts in the district.
The association lauded Yepthomi and the people of Sukhalu village for their responsible action and commitment to protecting wildlife.
It also emphasised the importance of community participation in conserving the region’s rich biodiversity.
The association also urged the public to report any sightings of injured, distressed, or displaced wildlife to the appropriate authorities or conservation organisations rather than attempting to keep wild animals as pets.
โCollective efforts by local communities play a vital role in safeguarding Nagaland’s unique wildlife heritage for future generations,โ it stated.
