The Customs Preventive Force of Moreh in Manipur under the supervision of its superintendent arrested a 32-year-old individual along with Rs three crore worth of ‘World is Yours’ (WY) tablets from Chikim Veng, near Moreh oil pump, along Asian Highway Imphal-Moreh road, sources said on Thursday.

The arrested individual has been identified as David Doungel of N Chajang village under Saikul subdivision in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

The seized 30,000 number of WY tablets weighing around three kilograms were displayed before media persons at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Customs Division in Imphal on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Assistant Commissioner, RK Darendrajit of Customs Division in Imphal, the officers of Customs Preventive Force of Moreh, led by its superintendent, based on specific information, intercepted and detected illegal transportation of 30,000 amphetamine tablets having the trade mark ‘881’ and weighing around three kilograms from David Doungel, at around 10:30 am at Chikim Veng, near Moreh petrol pump along Imphal-Moreh National Highway 102 on Wednesday.

The Customs officer said that during preliminary investigation the arrested individual revealed that the seized amphetamine tablets were of Myanmar origin and he was trying to transport the same to Imphal from Moreh.

A case has been registered under ND&PS Act 1985 against the arrested individual, the officer added. Further investigation is going on.

In June this year, the Tengnoupal battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles recovered 9,800 WY tablets worth Rs 49 lakhs from a Jungle track near Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district in Manipur.

Earlier, in one of the biggest drug hauls in 2018, Manipur Police seized a huge number of contraband WY tablets and heroin worth more than Rs three crore in the international market in January from a truck carrying sands in Imphal.
