Imphal: Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Manipur, Keisham Meghachandra, has sought a clear timeline and roadmap from the state government for restoring peace and normalcy in the violence-hit state.

In a post on X, Meghachandra said the people of Manipur had endured prolonged hardship, displacement and disruption of normal life since ethnic violence broke out on May 3, 2023. He said the BJP-led government, which has been in office for nearly five months, should present a practical and transparent plan for restoring peace and rebuilding public confidence.

The Congress leader sought details on the government’s roadmap for peace restoration, rehabilitation and resettlement measures for displaced families, and a timeline for the return to normalcy.

He also asked the government to outline measures being taken to ensure justice, security and reconciliation among affected communities.

Stating that peace can not remain an open-ended promise, Meghachandra called for a transparent, time-bound and inclusive plan addressing the concerns of all communities.

Manipur has witnessed ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023, resulting in significant loss of life, large-scale displacement and damage to property. The demand comes amid ongoing efforts by authorities to restore normalcy and facilitate the return of displaced persons.
