Guwahati: Zubeen Kshetra, the memorial dedicated to late singer Zubeen Garg will remain closed for three days in observance of Ambubachi Mela, according to the Zubeen Kshetra Cleanliness, Management and Monitoring Committee.

In a statement, the committee said the memorial was closed from 9 p.m. on June 22 and will remain inaccessible to visitors until the morning of June 26.

The decision, it said, was taken in keeping with customs observed during the annual Ambubachi Mela, when the Kamakhya Temple remains closed for three days. During this period, no lamps or incense will be lit at the memorial, and rituals will resume after it reopens.

The committee said the memorial, originally the cremation ground of the Assamese icon, has come to be regarded by admirers as a temple-like space dedicated to the singer’s memory, and the observance is being undertaken in that spirit.

The site is scheduled to reopen on June 26 following the conclusion of the Ambubachi observance.
