Aizawl: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint team comprising the Excise and Narcotics Department, Assam Rifles, and the Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) conducted an early morning operation on Friday, the Excise Department said in a statement.
The team seized a substantial quantity of heroin and arrested nine suspected traffickers.
The operation, conducted at New Vervek village in Aizawl district near the Manipur border at around 2:30 am, led to the recovery of 740 grams of heroin packed in 61 soap cases, the statement said.
Authorities also seized a newly purchased Mahindra Bolero camper, which was allegedly being used to transport the contraband, it said.
The nine accused, who hailed from different villages in Manipurโs Pherzawl district, were booked under Section 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, it said.
They were produced before the Special Court (NDPS Act) in Aizawl on the same day, the statement added.
