Aizawl: The Mizoram Health Care Society (MHCS) has secured ISO certification and won two national awards for its performance in implementing healthcare schemes in the state.
The society received the Best State (Beneficiary Enrolment) award and the Best Performing Small State award for recording the highest number of bio-authentications during the 2025-26 financial year under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
State Health Minister Lalrinpuii attended a function in Aizawl on Thursday to commemorate the achievement.
The minister said the recognition reflected the efforts of officials and staff involved in implementing the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), the state’s flagship healthcare programme.
She said the government would continue to strengthen and expand the scheme to improve healthcare access across the state.
According to Lalrinpuii, the government has released Rs 22.7 crore towards MUHCS claims since April this year, including Rs 13.45 crore for treatment within Mizoram and Rs 9.2 crore for treatment outside the state.
The minister said timely settlement of hospital bills remains a priority for the government.
Launched in March 2025, the MUHCS provides up to Rs 5 lakh in annual cashless treatment coverage at government hospitals and empanelled private and church-run hospitals within and outside Mizoram.
Under the scheme, general beneficiaries pay annual premiums ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 10,000 depending on the category of hospital accommodation chosen.
Government employees, including contractual and muster-roll staff, contribute between Rs 200 and Rs 1,500 per month based on their pay scales and are eligible for unlimited health coverage.
Pensioners and their spouses can avail health coverage of up to Rs 24 lakh annually by contributing their fixed medical allowance of Rs 1,000 as the baseline subscription fee.
The second phase of the scheme, MUHCS 2.0, was launched by Chief Minister Lalduhoma on March 16 and became operational on April 1.
