Guwahati: The High Court of Manipur has asked the state government to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) by Monday in connection with the alleged abduction of six Naga civilians, reportedly taken by Kuki armed groups more than three weeks ago.
The order was issued while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking judicial intervention in the matter of the missing persons from Leilon Vaiphei village, where the incident took place on May 13. The six individuals have not been traced since then.
Filed by Advocate Mark Khapai, president of the Naga Lawyersโ Association, Manipur, the PIL was presented through counsel Advocate D. Jilius Riamei, citing continued uncertainty over the fate of the missing civilians.
The plea calls for stronger action from both state and central authorities, along with security agencies, to step up the search and locate the missing individuals at the earliest.
While the state government reportedly stated that the case had been shifted to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Deputy Solicitor General of India told the court that the agency was yet to receive any formal communication.
After considering the submissions, the court ordered the state government to provide a detailed report on the steps taken so far and the progress achieved in the investigation.
Further proceedings are scheduled for Monday, when the state government will be asked to update the court on the status of the search efforts.
