Dimapur: Dimapur Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a senior police officer to investigate a recent rape case involving a minor girl, citing the sensitive nature of the matter.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), the victim’s guardians filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Dimapur Women Police Station on May 25. Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Based on the victim’s statement recorded during the investigation, police arrested two individuals identified as O Watimeren Jamir (43) and Tsuktimongba Ao (37). Both accused were subsequently produced before the court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation.

Officials stated that the investigation is progressing swiftly and is being carried out with due diligence while adhering to all legal procedures. The SIT has been tasked with ensuring a comprehensive probe and expediting the collection of evidence.

Dimapur Police reiterated their commitment to completing the investigation at the earliest and filing the chargesheet without unnecessary delay to ensure the fair administration of justice.

The police also appealed to members of the public and media organisations to protect the identity and privacy of the minor survivor. They urged people not to share any information that could reveal the victim’s identity, including personal details, photographs, educational information, or residential address.

Authorities further cautioned that revealing the identity of a minor victim is a punishable offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act. Strict legal action may be initiated against anyone found violating these provisions, the statement added.
