Guwahati: The Assam government has initiated a comprehensive review of arrangements for the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, with authorities focusing on security, logistics and candidate facilities across examination centers in the state.

The re-test is scheduled to be held on June 21 after the National Testing Agency (NTA) annulled the original examination conducted on May 3 amid allegations of a question paper leak and other irregularities.

To assess the state’s preparedness, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota on Saturday chaired a virtual meeting with Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police from various districts. The review was conducted in the presence of the Director General of Police and other senior officials.

According to official estimates, more than 43,000 aspirants are expected to appear for the examination, which will be conducted at 88 centres spread across 17 designated examination districts in Assam.

During the meeting, district administrations were directed to verify the readiness of examination venues and ensure seamless coordination among all agencies involved in the conduct of the test. Discussions covered a range of operational aspects, including deployment of security personnel, surveillance systems, biometric authentication, transportation logistics and uninterrupted power supply.

Authorities also examined protocols for the secure handling and transportation of confidential examination materials. Measures related to candidate frisking and monitoring at test centres were reviewed to strengthen the integrity of the examination process.

Special emphasis was placed on facilities for candidates. Officials were instructed to ensure the availability of essential amenities such as drinking water, adequate seating, proper ventilation, clean washrooms and designated waiting areas at all centres.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota urged district officials and law enforcement agencies to maintain close coordination and remain vigilant in the run-up to the examination. He stressed the importance of addressing any administrative or logistical challenges promptly to ensure the smooth conduct of the test.

The NEET-UG re-examination is being conducted under heightened public scrutiny following concerns over examination security at the national level, making preparedness and transparency key priorities for authorities.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), commonly known as NEET-UG, serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate medical and allied courses, including MBBS, BDS and other healthcare programmes across India.
