Pasighat: As part of its continued crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse, Yingkiong Police on Tuesday apprehended an alleged drug user-cum-peddler from the Yingkiong area in Upper Siang district.
According to police sources, the operation was launched after credible inputs were received regarding the movement of a suspected individual involved in narcotics-related activities. Acting on the information, Officer-in-Charge of Yingkiong Police Station, Inspector Kari Pertin, constituted a special police team comprising SI Ojing Moyong, SI Kenjom Pertin, Head Constable T. Lipir and Constable B. Eko to carry out the operation.
The team successfully traced and detained the suspect in the Yingkiong area. During the search, police recovered suspected heroin and cannabis (ganja) from the accusedโs possession. The seized substances were confiscated following due legal procedures in the presence of Executive Magistrate Tailyang Tomo.
A case has been registered at Yingkiong Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway, Inspector Kari Pertin said.
The Officer-in-Charge also appealed to civil society organisations and residents of Yingkiong to cooperate with police in combating the growing drug menace in Upper Siang district. He further urged youths to stay away from substance abuse and encouraged the public to share any information related to illegal drug activities with the police.
