Guwahati: In a major boost to horticulture and agro-tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, the state government has declared the Arunachal Pineapple Festival at Bagra, also known as the Pineapple Expo, an annual state event.

Welcoming the decision, the All Bagra Welfare Society (ABWS), led by Chairman and President Dumar Bagra, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the state Cabinet for granting state-level recognition to the festival.

In a statement, the society said the move would encourage pineapple growers, farmers, self-help groups, and rural entrepreneurs in West Siang district while strengthening the horticulture and allied sectors in the region.

The Arunachal Pineapple Festival was launched in 2024 as an agro-based initiative aimed at promoting the regionโ€™s organically grown pineapples, known for their sweetness and quality.

Over the past two years, the festival has emerged as a platform showcasing local agricultural produce, along with the culture and hospitality of the Galo community.

Bagra Circle in West Siang district is widely known for pineapple cultivation, with the fruit gaining popularity for its taste and nutritional value.

Organisers believe the region has the potential to emerge as a major pineapple-producing hub capable of attracting exporters, food processing industries, and tourists.

The ABWS also acknowledged the contribution of Topin Ete, MLA of the 30-Aalo West constituency, for supporting the initiative and advocating state recognition for the festival.

According to the organisers, the annual event is expected to provide a larger platform to promote the cultural heritage, tourism potential, and agricultural products of the region.
